Hello Everyone!
As you probably already know Windows 8 was recently launched. In the pas few weeks we've done various tests running Grome on Windows 8. I am glad to announce you that there are no major issues.
Grome is 100% compatible with Windows 8. During install, all the startup Grome commands (Grome exe shortcuts, special run commands, help links) are installed as Start screen tiles. During work Grome runs as expected, with all features working. Even after initial install of Windows 8, on most systems, Grome will run out of the box at full speed with no additional drivers needed to be installed (Windows 8 comes with video drivers for most systems).
There are however two small issues:
- After uninstall, all the Start menu tiles are not removed. This seems to be an issue with all old applications. We will work on Grome setup to remedy this.
- If you ran Grome from the setup (right at the end) you may obtain a different hardware id than when you ran Grome normally, after setup. This means that the initial license file may no longer work later. This is not a Windows 8 specific issue, but one starting with Windows Vista.
To avoid this issue please make sure you are also running both setup and Grome exe as administrator (right click and select Run as Administrator). In case you cannot run the program as administrator make sure your are doing it with the same user all the time.
We are also currently working to certify Grome setup with Windows App Certification Kit. Passing this would mean being able to list Grome as Windows 8 desktop application inside Microsoft Store.
We will keep you posted with our progress.
Kind Regards,
Adrian Licu
