Is there a way to rotate mask brushes?
I know that there is a parameter for rotating brushes, but it seemingly does nothing. I've tried this both with selection masks and without them, but with no success. I can take the road textures for example: since they have darker edges on their top and bottoms, i always end up with horisontal dark lines where the textures overlap.

Specifically i'd like to be able change rotation with every stroke if that's possible. I have also looked in the help file for solutions, but found nothing.

Hi,

Are you referring to level brush? If so, yes it does have orientation. Move the slider at Orientation (or use the ; and ' shortcuts). The brush gizmo even has a line to indicate the current orientation. This is very useful if you are using a mask image (check Use Mask and select a grey scale image, from Libraries/Brushes for example).

You can also check "Align to stroke direction" so the orientation aligns with the direction of your brush movement. Jitter means how much random orientation is applied with each stroke.

Kind Regards,
Adrian L.

Sorry, i was referring to the MaskBrush tool under the Texturing category. The orientation slider seems to have no effect as my textures always tile the same way when manually painted.

Hi,

The mask tool paints the mask. So the brush affects only the mask. You don't actually paint the layer texture, you just indicate where it is visible.

But the layer texture has an orientation, spin and tiling per layer. Refer to procedural texturing tutorial to see how the texture orientation is changed:
http://www.quadsoftware.com/index.php?m=section&sec=product&subsec=editor&target=Editor/tutorials_procedural
The UI is for Grome 2.0 in this tutorial, but you can figure out the similar settings for Grome 3.0.

In Grome 3.1 you also have a new tool called Manipulate that you can use with various gizmos to change the layer texture orientation. Refer to Grome help (at terrain texturing) for details.

So, for MaskBrush, if you are using a brush image mask and an orientation this indicates the way mask is painted. You can see how the layer visibility is changed based on the brush image you select and the orientation.

Let me know if I can provide more details.

Kind Regards,
Adrian L.
