Given our limited budget, I'm probably going to have to implement a GROME like renderer for terrain to work in our engine (currently TGE/A).
So I figured I'd ask. Is the GROME terrain based on any particular paper? It should give me a headstart on making something that is mostly compatible with the GROME version of the terrain (I like the tools and the game to have the same render methods where possible so it looks identical).
OSG (OpenSceneGraph) exporter is a great example of how to render the terrain texture layers as in Grome. The OSG scene fully describes the OpenGL rendering state used to render the terrain layers. It is not optimized (it is using a rendering pass per layer) but it will give you a startup. For the geometry LOD you can implement any method (clipmaps, geomipmap) as they are heightfield based.
