For now, the selection layers work only with heightmap tools (they don't work with textures). We plan to add selection layers for all the operations in the future versions. Also, version 1.3 (coming up next) will have the possibility to use shape files (simple polygonal format used by many applications) to limit the MaskGenerator. Shape files will act exactly like a selection layer.
You can however to make this work right now by writing an export plugin to save the selection map to a image file (should be easy to do if you are a programmer). Then use the image file as the mask image of the distribution mask. But you will have to do this for separately every terrain zone.
Ah, sounds like a good workaround, I'll do exactly that for now. The upcoming feature will be useful for me to make quick on-the-go adjustments, so I'm looking forward to that. Thanks ALicu!
